A well-established transport and logistics company with daily services throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Develop and lead the implementation and promotion of a Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental culture through the development of associated policies and procedures. Adequate communication channels are maintained so that information concerning safety matters, including the results of risk assessments, which may affect any or all employees, is communicated to them. Matters concerning safety raised by any employee are thoroughly investigated, and where necessary, effective action taken. Matters which cannot be effectively remedied are referred to the Operations Director for further action.
To facilitate and drive a culture of safe work practices in the 4 locations while working hours and location where there is the highest need.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
In keeping with accepted principles of good working practice, you may be required to undertake additional or alternative duties, as directed by your Manager. You are required to carry out the following key duties and accountabilities:
Establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure:
Existence and awareness of suitable and relevant health, safety and quality policies.
Existence and awareness of business related environmental management system legislations and policies.
A safe workplace without risk to health.
Safety training needs are identified, and all persons are adequately trained to carry out their duties as defined within the Health and Safety Management Control System in a safe manner.
Safe plant and machinery, and safe movement, storage and use of articles and substances.
The relevant members of management are aware of materials, equipment necessary to meet all safety requirements.
Adequate provision of first-aid and welfare facilities and support.
Proper and timely assessment of risks to health and safety, and implementation of measures and arrangements identified as necessary from the assessments.
Provision of emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, relevant protective clothing and equipment, and incident reporting to the relevant authorities.
Liaison as necessary with other organisations and relevant authorities, and assistance and co-operation concerning audits and remedial actions.
The workplace satisfies health, safety and welfare requirements for ventilation, temperature, lighting, sanitary, washing and rest facilities.
Prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks.
Surveillance and reporting on health and safety practices systems and environmental management systems.
Recruitment, selection, management and development of health and safety direct-reporting staff.
Effective contingency planning arrangements are in place to control potentially serious hazards or situations of imminent danger.
So far as is reasonably practicable ensure the Health and Safety and welfare of all visitors and staff.
Participate and attend association meetings.
General Responsibilities
The objectives outlined within the Health and Safety Policy Statement and Management Control System are fully understood and observed.
The Health and Safety Policy and Management Control System are regularly reviewed and amended as necessary.
Changes in the Health and Safety Policy Statement and Management Control System are brought to the attention of all employees.
Suitable risk assessments are carried out covering all processes and activities carried out by our client, with adequate records maintained.
All relevant registers, notices and documents are maintained and available for inspection. Working towards and supporting Company goals, values and objectives.
Ensure the highest level of quality of service is provided to both internal and external stakeholders at all times.
To complete all necessary administration duties.
With previous experience of heading up Health and Safety in a logistics organisation.
With a good level of numeracy, verbal and written skills you will be educated to a minimum of 'A 'level or equivalent standard.
Confident and articulate, commanding respect through knowledge experience and personal style, you will have a passion for service and strong customer focus.
